||6th annual national juried a.k.a. photography exhibition and
a group exhibition by Youth in Focus
From September 4th to September 30th, Benham Gallery is privileged to feature the 6th annual national juried a.k.a. photography exhibition and a group exhibition by Youth in Focus.
The 6th annual national juried a.k.a. photography exhibit is sponsored by Rainier Photographic Supply, Polaroid, and Benham Gallery. This event is designed to showcase the incredible variety of imagery that can be created using Polaroid film.
Numerous different techniques and styles are represented in the eclectic exhibit that features images that appear to be traditional photographs to those resembling watercolor and charcoal. Over 300 images were submitted by artists from throughout the United States. A jury consisting of photographers Peggy Washburn, Patricia Ridenour, and graphic artist Marty Fernandez carefully selected 35 images for the exhibit.
Every year, Rainier Photographic Supply donates a portion of all submittal fees to a charitable cause. Over the past six years, Rainier has been able to raise a total of over $6000 for charities including NW Aids Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Youth in Focus, and the Photographic Center Northwest.
Youth in Focus was founded in 1994 by Walter Bodle, an inner-city school teacher for more than 30 years. YIF uses photography as a comprehensive learning experience that provides inner-city youth a community based alternative to drugs and gang violence. YIF accomplishes this by intensive training and mentoring from experienced educators, photographers, and volunteers. This will be Youth in Focus' 6th show at Benham Gallery.
Please join us First Thursday, September 7th, from 6pm - 8pm for an opening reception for the artists
Our next show is from October 2nd to November 11th and will feature work by Thomas Harris, Jerry Pavia, and Craig Barber
