Phyllis
Uitti-Maslin takes the point of tension between two dimensional
plane and three dimensional illusion as starting point for her artist
investigations. In these shifting kaleidoscopic works, Uitti-Maslin
breaks the picture plane by slicing, reconfiguring, and collaging
her photographs into a new form where environment and object become
interchangeable.
Phyllis Uitti-Maslin's new work appears in a show titled, Terra
Incognito. Two-dimensional images take on three-dimensional characteristics
as the picture plane is sliced, reconfigured and collaged with other
photographs. Uitti-Maslin's images actually pop out from the surface
on which they lie, bringing the viewer into the interior nature
of her subjects' existence.
